Introduction Post

What's up everyone ! My name is Angel Juarez, nice to meet you ! I'm a senior+ (5th year in college total) and this is my 3rd year at Rutgers. I transferred from Raritan Valley Community College after graduating with my Associates in Fine Arts with a specialization in Graphic Design. I was born and raised right here, in the beautiful, sunshine-y state of New Jersey. I've lived in North Plainfield for most of my live, but soon after starting here at Rutgers, my family moved to South Plainfield. I live with my parents, my sister, my uncle, and our 4 cats (Poochie, Pickles, Melina, and Ghost) who I love very, very much.

I have a lot of hobbies and a lot of things I'm interested in, mostly art related things. Over the course of my life, I've done all different kinds of art, both in school and on my own. I've learned how to play the trumpet and the french horn and was in my middle school's concert and jazz bands and in my high school's concert, jazz, and marching bands for the entirety of my high school career. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, and it is what I am probably what I enjoy to do the most. At a young age, I would copy drawings from video game illustrations I liked, most notably illustrations from the Sonic the Hedgehog game series. I would draw little comics on my free time on pieces of lined notebook paper and fold them into little comic books to show my friends at school. I loved cartoons since a young age, and a lot of my comics and drawings would show some kind of motion, a prototypical way of my own kind of animation. It wasn't until middle school where my best friend would teach me how to use the animation program, Adobe Flash, when I would finally take the next step in my life, one focused on my main skills: Design, animation, and illustration (like it says on my business cards). Video games is, and always has been, an inspiration for my work and, while it isn't my main focus, I would love to one day work in designing UI for video games.

As a person, I am pretty chill. Not a lot of things can get to me easily, and when they do, I tend to not show it. I think about a lot of things in a very strange way, usually only thinking about how they directly relate to me, which is something I've been trying to change recently. I am very sympathetic and empathetic and I always try to be a positive element in my friends' lives. I love making people laugh, it's one of the things I do the best. Most of the times I can do so without even trying, my brain seems to always just be on funny mode since it's been a setting I've been using for so long. I really like trying to help people as best as I can, but sometimes my laziness overcomes me and inhibits my actions, but that's actually pretty rare and only happens when it's something to do with my sister, who I love very much.

I am also a big fan of worm on a string.

Me

Hello! My name is Bryan Rodrigues Oliveira. I am currently a junior here at Rutgers Newark and I am pursuing a major in Graphic Design with a minor an art. At the moment I am currently working on an art estore with the drawings that I do. There is honestly not too much to myself and personality so to describe me in one word would be complicated just like everyone else in this time of age. At the moment of my college career, I'm just trying to focus on myself and on exactly what I plan to do with my future and overall just make sure I am happy in the career that the world guides me in. I am an extreme introvert but also an extrovert on certain days where I feel I've been too much of introvert and overall just need some sunlight and fresh air. One last thing I would say about myself is that when I set a goal I am determined to achieve it whatever means necessary and believe that whatever happens, happens for a reason.

On a deeper scale, relating back to the micro and macro level of Bronfenbrenner and the powers of ten his theory of environment and interaction have an enormous but not a too great influence on my personality. My mother without a doubt has the biggest influence on my life when it comes to almost everything and I value her opinion over most. We have a strong bond and friendship but besides our healthy mother and son relationship, she is my encouragement and reason to keep pushing myself harder towards greatness. Furthering this so does my best friend. His opinion is always valued and knowing him for ten years we have formed a brothership. So absolutely my interactions with family and friends are without a doubt healthy and positive which I believe shapes my personality to be the same.

My culture is also a great influence on my personality! I am Brazilian and most of my family speaks Portuguese and I know most of it myself but it can get difficult at times to understand my grandparents from Brazil. Being Brazilian continuously impacts my personality in a positive way because even though I do live here in the United States we still eat Brazilian food and still listen to Brazilian music and I even have friends that I speak Portuguese and we could listen to music from different countries and understand them and sometimes even connect to them deeper.

hi !

Hi! My name is Katie Mok, I'm a senior at RU-N pursuing a major in Journalism and minor in Marketing. I was iffy about marketing but choose to continue it because I was interested in how attention can be captured and the process of doing so. I am 21, born and raised in Brooklyn, New York but currently lives in East Brunswick, New Jersey. I'm sorry but Jersey debates are weird... who cares if central exists or not? Because the only debate I care about is who has better pizza... New York by far...deep dish isn't pizza. And Taylor ham or pork roll? Why would I choose ham when there is sausages or bacon? Come on...

My hobbies varies. But I do love fashion, I could literally daydream about styling outfits together (I daydream about it because I can't afford to buy the outfits...sad reacts only please). My mom always said I was picky with what I wore since I was young. But she gets all the credit for my love of styling... my mom dressed me so well as a kid. I love taking photos on film. I love the results after it is processed, it adds that homey feel. I'm also on the lookout for a new film camera so if anyone has suggestions please let me know! Much appreciated! And of course I Netflix and Hulu...a lot. If you have Netflix please watch Next in Fashion. I actually cried, and what the designers create out of thin air is actually amazing and beautiful. And Brooklyn Nine- Nine is literally the best show ever.

I am Chinese- American and extremely prideful of my roots, now more than ever. I'm bilingual, speaking Cantonese and English, which I feel is a big part of my identity. Recently I studied abroad at the University of Hong Kong and that experience boosted my love for my roots once more. Never was I surrounded by so many people like me, Chinese- American (and Canadian, Aussie and much more) but we all spoke Cantonese, so it was pretty cool to experience that together!

Here are just some photos I took while I was in Hong Kong. It's a beautiful city undergoing something huge right now #standwithhongkong. But when the chance comes I highly suggest visiting. I was blessed with the opportunity!

Introduction

Hello!! My name is Quran and I am a 19 year old second year Graphic Design and Fine Arts student here at Rutgers Newark. I come from the small town of Plainfield where I went to a performing arts school for graphic design.

Deep down I have a burning interest in learning about any and everything art related. Different types of art forms really intrigue me. I fell in love with art when I was young after watching my dad do tattoos.  My love specifically for graphic design started my sophomore year of high school when I got on the adobe programs and started teaching myself a few things. I now enjoy photography, painting, drawing, sculpting, collaging and designing.

I love people. Helping others and giving back makes me happy. My personality can be described ass genuine, real and honest. I would describe myself as a social butterfly because i find it easy to blend with different groups of people.  I try to learn at least one thing from the people I interact with on a daily and spread as much love as possible.

Introduction

Hello everyone,
My name is Berteal but everyone calls me by my middle name which is Liannah. I prefer Liannah over Berteal because it is what I have been called since birth. Literally no one really calls me Berteal. I am a junior here at Rutgers University-Newark majoring in Video Production, minoring in Social Justice. I am apart of the HLLC community and I am currently enjoying the dorm life with my dog Hennessy. Henny is a Pug/Chihuahua mix breed and she serves as my ESA.

A few things to know about me...I am generally a happy person. I am always smiling and laughing. I can't go a day without laughter. I believe that laughter is the key to happiness, so you can usually catch me laughing or making someone else laugh. I am also a very talkative individual WHEN I WANT TO BE. This is important because if I am not talking trust me, I am listening, observing, or just not feeling your vibe (sorry not sorry). That last statement leads to another thing I like to be upfront about with people which is that I am very honest , sometimes a little too honest. I like to be straightforward with people and I generally attract straight forward , blunt, real, whatever you want to call it, people.

As far as my interest as I mentioned before I am interested in video production. I am a very creative being and I love to create, edit, and write content. Ever since I was a child I was always so fascinated with the art of film and entertainment. I have always had a burning desire to be an entertainer and film maker. It's honestly something about dreaming and visualizing things in your head and then manifesting those visions onto a big screen that fascinates me. I am a vivd and avid dreamer. Although I had this desire I never quite felt it was possible or within my reach to obtain or apprehend my dreams up until just recently when I took the time to get to know myself and believe in myself more. I am also in love with the art of music. I am a very passionate and talented might i add, lol writer and rapper. I love to write and create music and I love to "spit" or what many know it as rap. I strongly believe music was my first true love aside from the desire to do film. I loved music before I even had the talent or desire to understand or make it. Music is really my therapy, so I spend a lot of time creating and listening to new music. Last but certainly not least I am extremely big on vibes and energy. I like to refer to myself as spiritual not religious although I do still hold on to many of my Christian beliefs and practices I would not say I am the average Christian. I am very big on faith and protecting my energy.  I spend a lot of time trying to recharge after long encounters with a lot of humans. LOL I know that must sound funny but it is really true. I strongly believe when you are around a lot of different people you come in contact with a lot of different energies, vibes, personalities, etc and personally it can be really draining for me so I like to find peace in spending alone time with myself and God.

Intro

Hello! My name is Eileen Nguyen, I'm a senior here at Rutgers and I'm studying Journalism (major) and Video Production (minor). I chose to study Journalism and Video Production because I believe myself to be more of a creative person, rather than someone who sticks to the book. I was also never really good at math or science, so.

My major and minor also lead to my personal interests, which are fashion and beauty. I love putting together outfits and applying makeup and to be able to document the trends that are happening within the industry is something that I've always loved to do. I also love taking photos so I picked up photography as a hobby, where I'm slowly getting the hang of capturing and editing fashion photography.

My interests weren't really respected by my family, as they wanted me to pursue the medical field. My family is Vietnamese immigrants who came to America during the Vietnam war, so they have a more different way of thinking than I do. I grew up believing that I only had one path in life, which was to please my family and become the ultimate first-generation child who pursued a job in the medical field. However, my eyes opened up to new possibilities when I was exposed to different kinds of activities and of course, the world of fashion.

Intro:)

Hi, my name is Esther and I’d love to be friends with everyone. However, I tend to get super nervous or anxious and end up sticking to myself. To any outsider, I am a quiet, unfriendly, mean looking  girl. Perhaps, even a bit boujie. Personally, I know I’m a bit too antisocial but I’m working on being more outgoing, I’m also a huge procrastinator and possibly the most unorganized person ever. I love everything about fashion, God, and anything concerned with educating younger people about the issues we face as we grow older.

On a personal micro-level I am super emotional, fragile, and laugh at the slightest joke. I love giving advice and embracing others. I feel like there’s this strong beast of a woman living inside of me, waiting to be let out. For some reason, even in the 21st century, I’m scared to be that woman. I’m too concerned of how I’ll be perceived.

On a universal macro- level I’m a confident,  African American leader, and enthusiast. I was born and raised in Guyana. I aspire to make a world wide impact. I wish to bring to light issues that women still struggle with and perhaps even help them make sense of it all. I want to be a disciple for Christ and help others know that there’s a God out there who loves them. I wish to also be involved in some aspect of fashion.
