Introduction Post
Hello, My name is Medina I major in Journalism and minor in Women and Gender Studies. I’m a senior at Rutgers and hopefully will graduate by the end of this year. According to astrology, I am a Virgo, who is supposed to be precise and organized. But the people that know me well, know I’m the total opposite, I procrastinate and am very unorganized. I don't dwell too much on the past and typically go with the flow. I love all things in art, fashion and culture, especially music. More specifically I like indie, which include artists Lana Del Rey, Tyler the Creator, Omar Apollo, but I also like rap from artists like Kendrick Lamar and J Cole.
Platforms like Vox and Genius break down the meaning of music and movies where the journalist dig deeper finding imagery and metaphors in the art and that’s what I aspire to do.
Introduction Eric Morales
Hi classmates, my name is Eric Morales and I am a junior majoring in Video Production. I am 20 years old and my main dream goal to achieve is to be a fitness trainer or actor. My ethnicity is Puerto Rican and Portuguese. Since I was little I had played basketball and baseball my whole life. I had played baseball on the Rutgers-Newark team for 2 years and then something happened. I got injured pretty badly and couldn't finish the year strong with my team. Once I had been injured, I started getting into lifting/rehab to improve on my overall health. With that, I started to develop a passion for lifting at the gym and beginning a healthy diet. Ever since I had been transforming my body like never before and continue to pursue my dream.
The best way to describe my personality is that I'm very outgoing and energetic. I love getting to meet new people and interact with them. I just love having a good time and enjoying life because life is too short to not have fun or to be stressed out about something that's really not that important. I try to take advantage of every opportunity I receive because you may never get that opportunity again. My family is extremely precious to me because without them, I wouldn't be where I am without them. I am an only child and live with my mom and dad. Many people think that I'm lonely or too myself but I have a cousin that lives with me on the 3rd floor of my apartment and I've been with him since day 1. I consider him my younger brother and would do anything for him.
I decided to do Video Production because I always wanted to know how to edit videos. Most of my time at home, I would be on Youtube watching videos of "day in the lives" of these fitness athletes and wonder how they edited their videos. The film that inspired me to pursue fitness was Creed 2. Michael B. Jordan had transformed his body like no other and I wanted to do the same. His trainer had a 1 year program to help change your body in which I participated in. Sure enough a year later, through all the blood sweat and tears, I had done what I never thought was possible. On my instagram, ericm72699, I posted my 1 year transformation tagging Michael B. Jordan's trainer because it was his program I followed that got MBJ in that shape. My heart dropped when he actually responded to my post and put it on his IG story. It was a great way to end the year. My experience with that just opened my eyes and made me want more instead of been satisfied where I'm at.

Introduction
Hi, my name is Irissah Tyson-King and this is my forth year at Rutgers-Newark. I will be graduating May 2021 with a degree in Journalism and Media Studies. I chose Journalism, because I love to write, mainly poetry and song writing, but I enjoy writing articles as well. My goal is to host my own talk show in New York that showcases young talent and discusses issues that young creatives alone face on a daily basis such as feeling rejected to society, maintaining good mental health, etc. (Simil
ar to 106 and park, The Ellen Show etc.)
Besides writing, I love to sing. I began recording music in 2018 and released my first EP on January 11, 2020 titled "Luv Sick". I am grateful that I am able to combine my two passions: Journalism and Music. Painting is also a hobby of mine that I picked up about a year ago. I admire Frida Kahlo and her ability to express herself through art. She inspires me to do the same through music.
In essence, I appreciate all forms of art, because they allow us to express ourselves in a creative way. I would describe my personality as a social extrovert, because I am usually only social with my friends or when I am doing what I love.

Introduction - Jeffrey Figlar
Hello, I'm Jeffrey Figlar, and I'm a senior here at Rutgers Newark where I study Journalism & Media studies and Video production. This spring semester is my final semester here at Rutgers. Prior to Rutgers, I attended and graduated from Essex County College in Newark where I studied communications and video production. After getting my associate's degree, I was very eager to continue my education and to receive my bachelor's degree.
To get to know me from a micro level to a macro level, I'm the oldest of three children and I'm from Essex County, NJ. I'm a huge sports fan, Specifically (NFL, NBA, MLB) but I love all sports and can talk about them all day long. I played football, baseball, and lacrosse growing, and my greatest sports moment was when my high school football team had the opportunity to play the championship game in Metlife stadium.
As a journalist and video production major, I learned that I truly love to tell peoples stories and enjoy giving people a voice. I was not always interested in creating content or catching art visually, which is why I am blessed I decided to attend college where I was giving the chance to learn and grow as a person. I also love music (hip-hop/rap) mostly which helps me either relax or think when needed. As a person i like to think of myself as a funny, laid back person.

introduction
My name is Alejandra Morante. Little known fact about me is that I was born in Peru but immigrated to America when I was about one year old so I grew up raised in the states. You, reader, are going to learn a lot of little known facts about me as per the assignment. I identify as a woman and was born on March 7th, 1999, which makes me a Pisces. I chose the picture of the Pisces constellation as one of the pictures that describes me because it’s a pretty big part of my identity for me and also I’m very intrigued and infatuated with stars, constellations and outer space. Regarding the zodiac aspect, I know it shouldn’t necessarily be taken totally to the heart but personally I’ve found the descriptions quite accurate and also it’s just fun.
For the next picture I chose a strip of filmstock. The reason for this is because I simply love movies. Cinema is only one of many art mediums but it’s the one that I’ve been able to really connect with the most. Most of my childhood revolves around movies such as the Austin Powers movies, the Back To The Future trilogy, both Kill Bill films, Mean Girls, etc. Currently, my major is video production and when I graduate I hope to be able to work as part of a film crew and join a union. Although some people may not give it much consideration, entertainment is very important to people as it’s not only cathartic but it provides a sort of temporary escape from reality. Sometimes a little escape is all we need.
For my final picture I chose a picture of a loading icon because I’m still in progress myself. Not only am I in progress as a college student but as a person in general. I’m currently only twenty years old and will soon be turning twenty-one. I definitely have a lot left to learn, experience, and explore. In hindsight it’s sometimes scary to really think about how much else there is left to do but only because I have a fear of failure but it’s something that I’m still working on fixing. Still in progress. I suppose what’s important is to keep “loading,” to keep moving forward and just go on.
Introduction Matthew Mirlocca
Hello my name is Matthew Mirlocca a 21 year old graphic design major graduating in 2021. I have type 1 diabetes and enjoy the major I have choosen. I hope to learn from this class and make an impact on my work because of it.
Hello,
I’m Kaleigh Bennett. I’m a Graphic Design major graduating in 2023. I recently transferred from community college with an associates degree in Graphic Design and excited to finish my Bachelors degree. This is my second semester at Rutgers Newark, where I currently dorm on campus.
To work inside out starting on a micro level, I will start with my personal interests. I’m interested in all things artsy, I love visual art and design. I love my dog, Joaquin who is my baby and my life. Although right now I am living in Newark and haven’t done this in a while, I love hiking and learning and collecting plants as well as photography. I’m always taking on new hobbies and at the moment, I’ve gotten really into plant biology.
I am from the Jersey Shore; a suburbs right next door to Asbury Park, NJ. Growing up in Asbury, I learned a lot about visual and performance art as well as a huge music scene that inspired me to become creative when I was younger. My parents are both dead heads hippie types, which influenced my cultural preferences. They exposed me to more of an alternative style such as funky music and and eccentric lifestyle choices. I was exposed to many different types of creative outlets at a young age.
Hello, my name is Pushpinder Singh and I am a 21 year old graphic design student. Most of my acquaintances would say that I have a random and in a way dark sense of humor but it usually only comes out when I am with people that I am comfortable around. I am usually grounded in reality, but I have a habit of letting my mind wander off at times.
Animation, especially traditional Japanese anime and Disney styles, is something that has inspired me not only in my field but also in other aspects of my artwork as well. One day I would like to be either an animator or an illustrator after I graduate. The dream is to one day have either my own show based on my own ideas or one where I have some input.
I am very open minded for the most part and almost always look at things from numerous points of view. I have a German shepherd who is now way too big for his own good and I am also just a huge fan of animals and nature in general. Mixed martial arts is also something that

Hello, my name is Michael Oliphant. I'm a 23 year old graphic design student and artist working toward my degree. People often describe me as funny and outgoing, however I view myself as the opposite. Most of the time, if I'm not around friends, I'm quiet and reserved. I'm would describe myself as a positive pessimist. This is because I tend to view things from a negative perspective, and I realize that life is crazy and I don't have control over most things. So, in most cases, I just go with the flow. I enjoy reading manga, and watching anime, and those two mediums have had a big impact on my art and my life. Music is also an art medium that inspires and motivates me. I enjoy pondering existential topics, like life and the universe. I try to see controversial topics from all points of view, even though that can be very hard at times.

Hello, my name is Jadzia Munoz, I'm 20 years old and I'm a graphic design major. A lot of people tend to see me as a quiet person but around friends I'm really active, dedicated and creative. I like hanging out with friends and playing video games mainly Pokemon and Splatoon to pass the time and if not that then I enjoy drawing with them. In addition to that I enjoy going to conventions with them for a couple of days and sewing cosplays with them.
During my free time I like to draw illustrations and work on comics. One of my goals this year is to publish my comics and expand in them a bit more as well as to improve my art and sewing skills. I also enjoy reading manga and watching anime as well.

Hello, everyone! My name is James Negri, and I am 25 years old. I was born in Delaware where I lived until my family's house was foreclosed on! I then moved with my family to Middlesex where we lived with my Grandma for a few years, and after moved to Bridgewater where I have lived off and on since. I was home-schooled from 1st to 12th grade and decided to join the Marine Corps as soon as I could!
In the military I lived all over the country, but for the most part stayed in Southern California! Life in the military was full of challenges, but I am grateful for the ways it has developed me. The united states is a beautiful place, and I believe I've visited at least 30 of the 50 states! While in the Marines I was deployed on a big boat to the Pacific Ocean!
While on this deployment I spent a month in Djibouti, a month in Singapore, a week in Oman, and 3 days in Hong Kong. Seeing the world vastly expanded my views of it, and helped me to understand that the culture in the US is such a small aspect of the world. Once out of the military I decided to become a graphic designer! I love art, and I love making things simple. In addition I thought it would be a great way for me to see a culture that was very different from the military culture! I did miss the world travel though, and just recently went on a mission trip to Ghana for two weeks! I hope to continue to see the world, and remind myself of how small I really am in it! I also
love video games and talking about deep subjects like what happens after death!

Introduction
Hey! My name's Evan Mercado. I'm currently in my fourth year here at Rutgers University, majoring in Video Production. I've lived in the small town of Secaucus for as long as I can remember and it holds plenty of moments that helped shape who I am today. I grew up with four brothers that taught me the importance of family and roughhousing, which led to a lot of fun and yet a lot of trouble. We grew up on video games, comic books, and professional wrestling and never lost that sense of enjoyment from either.
Overtime, I gained interest in making stop-motion animations thanks to the various films by Ray Harryhausen. I made a few small projects as a kid with wrestling action figures and wanted to see how I can improve them. This eventually led to my major in Video Production and my first steps into Rutgers University and while I was able to become a student, it was incredibly difficult to maintain that status. As time went on, my family couldn't afford the expenses to support my education, which caused me to take a leave of absence for about a year. My Mom was devastated by this and felt more upset about it than myself. I told her that day that I'll somehow make it back, no matter how long it took and after a years worth of work, I was able to return.
Overall, I like to think I'm a hard worker. Maintaining a full-time schedule for work and classes is not the easiest thing to do and I know I'm not the only one attempting the same thing. As long as the struggle may seem, I believe where the destination leads to is definitely worth it. With all of the effort I put into coming back to Rutgers, I can't stop now and can only move forward.

Introduction
My name is Luis Reyes, I am a 22 year old male finishing his junior year. I am majoring in Graphic Design and completing a minor in Art History. I like to play video games, watch movies, and waste excessive amounts of my day on social media like mostly everybody my age. In various aspects of my personality I always seems to have two contrasting motives. For example sometimes I can be very introverted but also extroverted depending on the people around. I like to keep busy by having many interests and hobbies, that change almost monthly, to lazing around and having absolutely nothing to do. I kind of like that since I myself never know what I am going to do next.
On a bigger scale I am a son, a younger brother and, if I could say so myself, an amazing friend. My friend group is probably one of the most important aspects to me. We all have a mutual love and respect for one another that I have recently noticed was always there but never truly noticed until now. The different experiences that I have had with my peers shaped me into the person I am today. They have taught me to be patient, empathetic, loyal, and absolutely hilarious since we all have extremely similar senses of humor and truly I really think that is the secret to getting along but I will settle for great communication skills as well. More importantly they taught what a community truly is.
On an even bigger scope I am a Hispanic male and that comes with already a pretty dense culture. Not only dense but also very diverse different races can make up the Hispanic ethnicity. The reason I chose a still of Grand Budapest Hotel is because from an early age, television, film and media inspired me creatively. Also I chose to use a stock image of "friends" since I only have very ugly and embarrassing photos of my friends and probably not very family friendly. Just like many others my age but growing up with the internet and being exposed to an endless amount of media shaped how I view the world. There is no limit on what I can do or achieve just like there is no limit on what one can learn or draw inspiration from.

Who I Am
My name is Layla Abdallah and I am a senior majoring in journalism and media studies with a minor in general history. I would describe myself as a passionate leader and community activist committed to making change in regards to hyper local issues such as the lead in Newark water and the gentrification of my birthplace. I was born in Newark and raised in East Orange and Jersey has always been my home. I love both cities and will never forget my roots.
On a macro level, I am a Black woman dedicated to my job, my education, and my community. Currently, I work at a bookstore that specializes in being accessible to the special needs community. As a member of multiple student organizations at Rutgers, I have had many opportunities to enhance my interpersonal skills; which I take pride in. I am the middle child of three which makes my life exciting all the time. In my free time, which is rare, I watch football, read tons of books, go to the movies, and I have recently gotten into painting. Taking 19 credits, working 23-32 hours a weekend, and maintaining my E-board positions has made me appreciate all the time I spend with my family and friends more and more as I aim to graduate this May.
Football, Family, and Food. Those three things have shaped me into the woman I am today and have solidified what I want to do with my future. After college, I plan on working as a sports journalist and then pursuing my dream of going to law school. My goal in life is to be remembered as someone who made a change for their community and the youth of inner cities.
Hello
Hi all,
My name is Emily and I am Junior here at Rutgers majoring in Graphic Design and minoring in Art History. I was a transfer student from Raritan Valley Community College, coming back to school after taking a gap year to work at an internship program hosted by my typical summer employment to be their in-house graphic designer, an opportunity that I was glad to have taken. Originally, I started out as an Environmental Science major but I enjoyed art, drawing, and design too much not to pursue my true passion, much to my parents dismay at first, but ever since have not looked back knowing that I made the right decision for myself which ultimately, in the end, is what matters the most.
On a micro level, I'm an individual who tends to stay mostly to themselves though, in recent years have learned to break out of that shell and approach more and more people. One can typically find me with headphones in listening to my same Spotify playlist on repeat for the hundredth time sketching away either digitally or traditionally when not working on assignments. I'm an avid collector of books (Harry Potter will always be my favorite series), an owner of pets ranging from dog to rat and a ukulele enthusiast. When it comes to working I am very detail oriented, determined and in the moment yet willing to go with the flow as I have learned from being a camp counselor/director as well as being a free lance designer.
Giant's Causeway July 2019 |
On a more macro level I have loved exploring the world and different cultures other than my own. Growing up my pool of interaction was limited and small but since 2014 I've traveled to the Netherlands, England, Italy, Costa Rica, Ireland and in a few months Japan. Traveling has made me realize and see that what seems like such a big and trivial problem is truly insignificant when you are traveling above the ocean and crossing the globe because adventure and new experiences wait just around the corner. Another level of this idea of macro is the environment I work in during the summer as a camp counselor/director, through this experience I have made life long friends who have opened my eyes to new ideas and thoughts and have come into contact with so many people and kids with so many different stories yet, they are are, typically, connected through their faith, being a christian based camp, as well as just being human and looking for that interaction. That's what it is all about in the end--interacting with one another, sharing experiences and looking for adventure all while staying true to ones self.
Jeremy
My name is Jeremy Frederick Leonard McGhee, I'm 26 years old, the youngest of three brothers, and somewhat recently the uncle to an amazing child. My heritage is fairly mixed with my family coming from Poland, Austria, as well as being part Native American. I tend to be on the quiet side most of the time but will talk for hours if the conversation can hold my interest. Speaking of interests I would have to admit that mine tend to fall on the more nerdy side of culture from videogames, StarWars, fantasy, and superheroes.
My interests likewise have a wide range, as far back as I can remember I've had a love for rock centered music which since then branched out to include rap, pop, and other genres. Because of that one of my favorite things to do when I can is to attend concerts. Within the past few years, guided by my girlfriend, I began an exploration into the world of cosplay and conventions. A natural move for me due to it combining my passion for making with my love of various pop cultures all coming to fruition every year at NYCC. Another large fascination that I've held for the past ten or so years is that of horology which has led to me building a small collection of watches of a few different styles and even modifying one myself.
In school, I had a long-running issue of finding what I wanted to do. I attended a technical high school where I studied engineering but lost most interest by my junior year. I attended Bergen Community College where I studied Architecture as well as taking art electives. When I transferred to Rutgers I thought I wanted to do computer engineering and programming, but quickly learned that I felt very confined by it creatively. Finally, I realized that a future in graphic design would be perfect for me by combining the creative traits I admired from the other courses of study I had followed while also allowing me to follow a creative message. That's where I stand now, set on the path of graphic design with no desire to swap again.

Hopefully, it will say that Imani Hayes came, saw, persevered, and conquered life, as we know it, on this earth.
I identify as a sister, daughter, aunt, niece, and a mother to my Shih Tzu, Kevin. I identify
as a fiancé and future wife to the love of my life, Elijah Cuffy. I love my family and would do anything for them. I am a very giving person and would give the shirt off my back for them. It is important to know that I identify as a proud transgendered woman who has revamped and turned her life around. I am unapologetic about who I am as a person.
I know that I have many challenges that lie ahead of me mainly my health. I'm optimistic about my future because like with anything, there are many uncertainties. My goal is to graduate from Rutgers University-Newark and make may family proud. Once again, I don't know what this next chapter of my life will read. Hopefully, it will say that Imani Hayes came, saw, persevered, and conquered life, as we know it, on this earth.
